Background
History
The current pier is the 7th to be constructed on Redondo Beach shores. Original wharves date to 1889 for lumber delivery. The iconic Endless Pier was built in 1916 with reinforced concrete. The Monstad Pier (1925) still stands alongside the modern structure. In 1988, the pier was battered by winter storms and burned to the waterline on May 27 from an electrical short circuit. The current reinforced concrete version was completed in 1995 — 70,000 sq ft sitting 25 feet above water on 202 concrete piles.
