About this data
Sources & methodology.
Every number on this page is linked to its primary source. Where we couldn't link directly (some government data portals don't support deep links), we cite the specific report or table.
Population uses the California Department of Finance E-1 estimate, which the city itself uses in budget documents. The 2020 Census count (71,463) is higher because it predates pandemic-era population shifts.
Housing prices are median sale prices compiled from CoreLogic/CRMLS data via Redfin and NeighborhoodScout. These are approximate — medians fluctuate month to month — but directionally accurate.
Budget figures are from the FY 2026-27 Proposed Budget presentation to City Council on May 19, 2026 (Legistar File #26-0581). See our full budget analysis for details.
Tax rates are current as of the dates noted. The sales tax rate increased to 10.25% in April 2025 with LA County Measure A.
