History
Originally developed as a man-made harbor, it was renamed King Harbor after Congressman Cecil R. King. The area was the subject of the failed CenterCal waterfront redevelopment project — a proposed large-scale mixed-use mall defeated by voters via Measure C, resulting in over $30 million in costs to the city.
Now
Current Status
Active marina with boat slips and commercial tenants. The California Surf Club opened May 2025 (combining the old Ruby's and On The Rocks/Chiller's buildings) as the first major new waterfront project in over a decade. Key tenants include Quality Seafood, R10 Social House, and Riviera Mexican Cantina.
