How to Report a Problem in Redondo Beach: Potholes, Graffiti, Noise, and More

A complete guide to every phone number, online portal, and city department you need — from broken streetlights to code enforcement complaints.

By Better Redondo · June 4, 2026

Broken streetlight on your block? Pothole eating your tires? Graffiti on a wall that wasn't there yesterday? Redondo Beach has specific channels for each type of problem, and knowing which one to use is the difference between a quick fix and weeks of frustration. Here's a plain-English guide to reporting issues in the city — who handles what, how to reach them, and what to expect after you file.

The city's online request system

The fastest way to report most non-emergency problems is through the city's online request portal, powered by Comcate. You can access it at clients.comcate.com/newrequest.php?id=23 or by going to redondo.org and clicking “Report an Issue” under the “I Want To” menu. The system lets you describe the problem, attach photos, and pin the location on a map. You'll get a tracking number so you can follow up.

Common issues handled through the portal include potholes and street damage, sidewalk cracks and trip hazards, streetlight outages, illegal dumping, abandoned shopping carts, and general public works concerns. Photo attachments help — a picture of the pothole with a shoe or water bottle for scale gives the crew exactly what they need.

Graffiti removal

Redondo Beach has a dedicated graffiti hotline: (310) 318-0685. The city's Public Works Department handles graffiti removal on public property — walls, sidewalks, utility boxes, street signs, and similar surfaces. For graffiti on city-owned property, crews typically respond within 24 to 48 hours.

If the graffiti is on private property, the city will notify the property owner, who is responsible for removal under the municipal code. Property owners generally have a set number of days to clean it up before code enforcement follows up. You can also report graffiti through the online Comcate portal.

Potholes and street repairs

For potholes and road surface issues, call Public Works at (310) 318-0686 during business hours or file online through the Comcate system. The department handles street maintenance, including asphalt patching, crack sealing, and full repaving. Response times vary depending on severity — a pothole on a busy street will get prioritized over a minor crack on a quiet residential block.

When reporting, include the exact location (cross streets or address), the approximate size of the pothole, and whether it's in the travel lane, bike lane, or parking area. If it's a hazard — deep enough to damage a tire or cause a cyclist to crash — say so explicitly.

Streetlight outages

Broken streetlights are a Public Works issue, reported the same way — call (310) 318-0686 or use the online portal. Include the nearest address or pole number if visible (usually stamped on the pole about five feet up). Note whether the light is completely out, flickering, or staying on during the day. Some streetlights in Redondo Beach are maintained by Southern California Edison rather than the city — if Public Works determines it's an Edison light, they'll redirect the request.

Noise complaints

For noise disturbances, call the Redondo Beach Police Department's non-emergency line: (310) 379-5411. This covers loud parties, construction outside permitted hours, barking dogs, and any other noise that violates the city's municipal code. Construction in residential areas is generally limited to Monday through Saturday, 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with no construction on Sundays or holidays.

For ongoing noise issues — like a neighbor who runs loud equipment every weekend — document the dates and times and file a formal complaint with the police. Repeated violations can result in citations.

Animal control

Stray animals, barking dog complaints, wildlife concerns, and animal cruelty reports go to Animal Control at (310) 318-0611. The Animal Control unit is part of the Police Department and handles loose dogs, injured wildlife, animal bites, and license enforcement. For a stray or injured animal in immediate distress, call the non-emergency police line at (310) 379-5411 for faster dispatch, especially after hours.

Redondo Beach requires all dogs over four months old to be licensed through the city. Licenses can be obtained online through the city website or at the Police Department.

Code enforcement complaints

For property maintenance issues, unpermitted construction, illegal business activity in residential areas, or short-term rental violations, contact Code Enforcement. Code Enforcement is part of the Police Department and can be reached at (310) 318-0650. Common complaints include overgrown vegetation blocking sidewalks, inoperable vehicles, unpermitted garage conversions, and violations of the city's ban on short-term vacation rentals (under 30 days).

Complaints can be filed anonymously. Code enforcement officers will investigate and, if a violation is confirmed, issue a notice to the property owner with a deadline to correct it. We have a full explainer on how code enforcement works in Redondo Beach if you want the full picture.

Water and sewer issues

Water main breaks, sewer backups, and flooding are emergencies — call Public Works at (310) 318-0686 during business hours or the Police non-emergency line at (310) 379-5411 after hours. For a water main break (water gushing from the street), calling immediately helps minimize damage and water loss. For sewer odors or slow backups, note the location and whether it's in the street or on your property — the city is responsible for the main sewer lines, while homeowners are responsible for the lateral line from the main to the house.

Tree trimming and sidewalk damage

The city maintains street trees and parkway trees — the ones between the sidewalk and the curb. If a city tree is dead, damaged, blocking a street sign, or its roots are buckling the sidewalk, report it to Public Works at (310) 318-0686. Do not trim or remove a city tree yourself — it requires a permit and unauthorized removal can result in fines.

Trees on private property are the owner's responsibility. If a neighbor's tree is overhanging your property, you generally have the right to trim branches up to the property line, but cutting beyond that or damaging the tree can create liability issues.

Harbor and beach issues

For issues at King Harbor, the pier, or the beach, contact Harbor Patrol at (310) 318-0632. Harbor Patrol handles marine emergencies, suspicious activity around the harbor, vessel-related concerns, and waterfront safety. For beach conditions and rip current warnings, check the city's surf report page or call the Fire Department's marine safety division.
